I wasn't seeing results in my business until I implemented this system
I wasn’t seeing results in business until…
I started doing weekly reviews.
Why?
Because they:
Allow me to solve problems before they become too serious
Prevent me from losing focus on my priorities
Unlock real learning
All three are imperative for success.
On the flip side, if you don’t do this, you won’t see the results you desire.
Let’s see why.
Solve problems before they become too serious
Unsolved problems tend to grow under the surface, compromising your performance and/or ultimately erupting in a huge disaster.
Just recall any huge problem you had. Nine times out of ten, it was something that initially was pushed under the carpet and eventually came back with 5x force.
The customer complaints you ignored, the analytics you didn’t check for months, the dentist visits you put off for years, and so on…
Weekly reviews allow you to catch issues every week and solve them when they’re in an infant state.
Prevent from losing focus
We often get so absorbed in our daily work that we forget about what’s important.
There are always endless:
Fires to be put out
Email to be answered
Tasks to be completed
Meetings to be attended
Etc.
In other words, we focus on the trees and forget about the forest.
If we’re in constant execution mode, we tend to slowly get off course.
Yet, our daily work only makes sense when it contributes to our goals or projects.
It doesn’t matter that you’ve worked 12 hours today if you’ve worked on the wrong things.
Weekly reviews allow you to zoom out, regain perspective, and refocus on what’s important.
Unlock real learning
You can say you’ve learned only when the same circumstances resulted in a different behavior.
If this doesn’t happen, you haven’t learned—no matter how many books you’ve read in the meantime.
For example, if after reading 10 books on sales you’re still closing 0% of your prospects, you haven’t learned.
To learn, we need 3 things
Hypothesis (i.e., a plan): “If I do this, that will happen”
(Learning without a hypothesis is like shooting an arrow with a blindfold on.)Action: Executing the hypothesis/plan
(Planning without action is equal to dreaming.)Analysis: Reviewing the results
(Action without analysis is like cooking without tasting the meal (ever done that?))
In short, plan, do, analyze—and repeat.
What’s crazy is that most people miss at least one of those three steps (maybe that’s why they don’t learn as effectively as they would want?).
What’s more, the quicker you go through this cycle (i.e., iterate) the quicker you’ll learn.
Weekly reviews allow you to learn effectively every single week (!) This puts you in the top 1% of people.
…
To summarize, weekly reviews unlock results because they allow you to:
Catch issues every week and solve them when they’re in an infant state
Zoom out, regain perspective, and refocus on what’s important
Learn effectively every single week
Let’s take a look at how I conduct weekly reviews myself (and with my clients) to accelerate the results.
How I conduct weekly reviews
Every Sunday, I reserve 30 minutes for the weekly review.
The 4-step process is the following.
#1 List out all of your projects on 1 page
I list out all active projects on one page to have a big-picture view of everything important that’s happening in your business at the moment.
#2 Analyze each project
I open each project in a sidebar to analyze my previous week’s work.
In my system, this means tasks, meetings, & resources linked to the project.
I ask myself,
First, “What were my intended results?”
Then, “What were my actual results?”
The purpose of those two questions is to evaluate progress.
Am I getting closer to my desired results? If not, why?
I review the project goal and evaluate the work I assigned to myself last week.
#3 Define 1-3 priorities
I ask myself, “What are my top 1-3 priorities for this week to achieve the project goal in time?” and list them out.
#4 Plan tasks
Transform priorities into specific tasks and add due dates to ensure what needs to get done will get done.
That’s it.
Conclusion
I hope I’ve convinced you that weekly reviews are a powerful system for getting the results you want.
It’s one of the top three things I focus on with my clients to enhance their performance.
Now it’s your turn.
With love,
Simon
