How I Used Dan Koe’s Non-Needy Networking Process To Grow My Twitter Followers By Almost 20% In 7 Days (Free Notion Template)
The internet is full of great content, but unless you act on it, it can be hard to benefit from it.
With that in mind, I've built a Notion system based on Dan Koe’s amazing Non-Needy Networking Process.
As a result, I’ve grown my connections by almost 20% in one week.
This is how (free Notion template included).
Intro
Your success equals how good your offer is multiplied by the traffic.
This means that provided you have a valuable service, product, or content, what’s determining your growth is the number of people who see it.
In the past, getting people to see your offer required a lot of effort—good grades, a prestigious college, networking your way up the corporate ladder to get to the position able to reach high-value people.
Now, you have the internet, which makes reaching people who need your skills easier than ever.
You’re literally one DM, tweet, or post away from a person who needs a website for their business, advice on how to get fit, or your productivity app for their startup.
The bigger audience you have, the easier it is to reach people who need your offer.
And the key to growing your social media audience is building a high-value network through DMs.
(Dan has done an amazing job of explaining the details in his article: https://thedankoe.com/how-to-network-with-millionaires-and-build-a-name-for-yourself/ Check it out for more details.)
Inspired by it, I distilled his article into action points and created a Notion system that helps me with the process. It contains:
Minimalistic dashboard with all of your, contacts, tasks, links, meetings, and statuses
Network CRM with all your connections
Tasks database to track all steps of the networking process
Ready-to-use DM templates to save you time
Links database for resources you can send to my connections
Meetings database to track your calls
It’s only 1 week since I started using it and I’ve already connected with great people and grown my followers by almost 20%.
Here’s the Notion Networking system with a step by step to growing your connections. (You can find the link to the template at the bottom in the Resources section)
The Process
#1 Find somebody that you WANT to DM
Who? People who are in your within your follower range (have no more than 10x the number of followers as you)—who:
You are inspired by
You would want to work with
You would want to strategize with
You see potential for mutual benefit
Where?
The “following” list of accounts that you like.
The reply area of one of your mentors
The comment section of posts of accounts that you like
#2 Follow them and engage with their content
To increase your chances of getting a reply, follow and interact with their content for a few days before you reach out, so they become familiar with you.
#3 Send them an inspired compliment
Find a piece of their content, work, or current projects that you are truly inspired by. Send it to them and tell them how it resonated with you.
Dan’s example (more examples in the template): What’s up Dan, this tweet hit me hard. I’ve been going through it the past couple of days and this instantly gave me some relief. Thank you. [add the link to the post you liked]
#4 (If they don’t respond) Send them another DM(s) by showing interest
Showing interest makes you interesting.
Ask them about:
Their goals
What they are building
What they do for work
What they’re working on currently
Dan’s example: Do you have anything that you’re building right now? With that kind of content, you must have something bigger in the works.
#5 (Once they respond) Send them DM(s) with value
Show that you’re interested in helping them.
If you have value:
See where you can help and give them free actionable tips
Send them your resources, systems, or content you’ve created (for free) that can help them, educate them, or inspire them.
If you don’t have value:
Send a resource that can help them with their goals
Connect them with someone else in your network
Just continue having a good conversation and showing interest
#6 (Optional) Get on a call to make a deeper connection
Face-to-face interaction is much more powerful than text.
Example of a request: Let's hop on a video call next week to get to know each other. I’d love to learn more about what you do and discuss ideas for mutual growth. Face-to-face interaction is just that much better than texting. What do you think?
#7 (If call) Follow up with value
Send them content, resources, or people related to what you were talking about during the call.
Dan’s example: I remember you telling me about your plans for [their project or goal]. I found this today and thought you’d find it helpful.
#8 Follow up with an ask
You’ve built a solid connection, now you’re ready to ask them for something. If you send them your offer, don’t be pushy—let them engage with it however they like.
Dan’s example: Yo, just wrote this up and thought you’d enjoy it. It was inspired by our previous conversation.
Repeat
If you’re serious about your growth, you should reach out to someone almost every day. Results will come quicker than you think.
